Sample Answer –

Dear……………,

May I introduce myself as the Professor of Social Sciences at the ABC College at Cochin. I have come to understand that you are proposing to conduct a historical exhibition at Hill town nearby. I would like to organize a tour of thirty of my senior students to it with a view to help them prepare a social survey report as a part of their final years exams. I shall be grateful if you could furnish me with the following information by return of post.

I would, most importantly, like to know about the theme of your show. Does it pertain to the history of our nation, as a whole, or is it confined only to the local history? Would it have exhibits of social bearing of the present times, as well as those of the past? Would a visit, in your opinion, by my students to the exhibition help them towards their goal?

Also, inform me the date of commencement of your programme and its duration, so that I can arrange for the tour well in advance. Please put me wise regarding the charges and about my student/group concessions.

Yours faithfully,

Writing Task 2 (AC+GT):-

What steps should a student take in preparing for tertiary education and what would be the benefit of taking such steps.

Sample Answer:-

The selection of a discipline for tertiary education requires* careful thinking on the part of students. Choosing a wrong field can result in the ruin of a person’s life beyond any possible recovery. This essay analyses the steps to be taken by a student in the preparation of higher studies and the gains of the selection of such steps.

Primarily, an awareness of the different courses and their syllabi is needed for a student in the preparation for a course. For example, instead of choosing traditional subjects, plenty of new disciplines are there for people to study. Discretion is required in the proper selection of courses, as some courses are outdated and some are much in demand. Secondarily, since higher is very expensive, the possibility of getting a bank loan or scholarship must be evaluated. Apart from this, as job opportunity is one of the important factors in the selection of a course, the student has to evaluate that as well. It is better to seek professional advice, since job opportunity is global.

Yet again, it must be ensured that the student is blessed with good level of analytical brain to write projects. Today, there is a good need for writing projects in tertiary education. Extensive reading is required to broaden one’s global perspective, as the location of work is not confined to one’s own country.

In short, in the preparation for tertiary education, an awareness of the course for specialization and the amount of the finance required to complete the course are of importance. In addition, job prospects of the course and the student’s ability to write projects are to be assessed.

PART – 1 Intro Part

What is your full name?

My name is Khushkaran Singh.

Can I see you ID?

Here is my passport.

Where do you come from?

I come from India originally, but I have been staying here in Canada for the last six months.

Do you work or study?

I am a student at the moment. I am studying Executive Master of Business Administration. I used to work as an operation manager for Future Group Limited in India.

Are you a morning or an afternoon person? Why?

I am not a morning guy for sure; I wake up reasonably early as per my standard at around 7 in the morning. I dillydally (=waste time) – read the newspaper, chat with friends on whatsapp or Facebook, have my breakfast and listen to music. This whole bunch of activities takes around one hour or so. Then I take a long, steamy shower because I’ve a profound (=intense) love of cleanliness. Thus, I can term myself as an afternoon person.

Did you enjoy your high school? Why?

Yes, I suppose I did. Those were the best days of my life. We were young, restless and mischievous; I didn’t pay much attention on my studies. I spent my time more on playing than studying, participated in all kinds of games always. Frankly speaking, I didn’t like taking exams at the end of the year.

What was your favorite subjects? Why?

Mathematic (Math) was my favorite subject. I was always brilliant at Calculus. My father always discussed the magic of numbers and would do some arithmetic sum, and show me it’s magic. I like this subject because it was filled with fun; only you have to remember and practice important elements/equations, and your job is done! Unlike other subjects – in which I always struggled – Math was easy. I yet remember important learning of trigonometry, theorem, equation, factor, denomination, rational number and so forth.

What subject learnt in school was helpful later in life? Why?

I would say every course (subject) taught me something or the other. The variety of courses made my personality and career whole. Today I could research things on Science, think logically by applying Math or write an impressive report using the international languages such as English. Two courses that are yet useful in my career are Math and English language. As mentioned earlier, I am a Software Engineer and these both courses are handy to make my job smoother and easier.

  • What happened on that day
  • Why you remember that event

Sample Answer:-

I have come across many important and memorable events in my life. However, I would like to speak about the welcome party of my college that took place on the second day of college at the college hall in 1993. I had a flair for handling announcements and other anchoring related activities since childhood but I didn’t make any serious efforts for it until this event happened. It was the first and the orientation day of our college where seniors came to our class and announced that there would be a fresher party on the next day and we all were invited to it. I went there, , the party was exciting and people were enjoying the company of new college mates. Finally, some seniors went on stage and started the event that was full of different performances like dance; comedy etc. suddenly there was an announcement about the anchor as the anchor from the senior class could not come to the party because of personal reasons. At that point, one of the professors gave an open invitation to us so that anyone from us would handle that event. I gathered some courage and went on stage. It was a new and exciting experience for me. I used my skills well and the event was enjoyed by all the people. The professor who had invited us for anchoring came to me at the end and appreciated me for my endeavours. Since then, I anchored many functions of my college but the first experience was really outstanding for me. It gave me a lot of confidence and satisfaction of making that event enjoyable for all students and professors. I still remember that event and even today, whenever I want to recall my college days, I don’t forget to see photos of that event.
