Sample Answer:-

The bar graph shows the amount of railway traffic – the passenger travelled and the goods carried from 2002-2003 to 2011-2012. The horizontal axis represents the time period, the vertical axis depicts the number of travelling passengers in millions and the goods carried in million tonnes.

It is seen that in the initial years, from 2002 to 2003, the railways carried nearly 3,800 million passengers and approximately 300 million tonnes of goods. By the year 2011-2012, after a gap of 10 years, the traffic had increased to nearly 5,000 million passengers and 500 million tonnes of goods carried. There is steady increase in the local carried, though the increase is only incremental.

Here, too, it can be seen that the amount of goods traffic remained virtually stagnant, first between 2002-2003 and 2004-2005 and again between 2005-2006 and 2007-2008.

– Describe the item you lost

– Explain how you lost it

Tell what you would like the insurance company to do

Sample Answer:-

Dear Mr. Stone,

I am writing to claim the insurance of my ring lost during my recent travel to Singapore.

Last week, I availed myself of your travel insurance service while going on a holiday to Singapore. It was a wonderful trip, but during the trip I lost a family heirloom, my ruby ring. The loss is irreparable, as it has been in my family for generations.

We had visited many places in Singapore and I clearly remember wearing it while leaving the hotel for the airport. But, after boarding the plane I could not find it. We called up the taxi driver who had dropped us. However, he too confirmed that he could not find it.

As per the travel insurance policy, I am entitled to claim its loss. My policy number is AR 56382. The details of the ring, along with its photograph and value, can be found in the policy. I would request you to kindly clear the claim at the earliest and transfer the money into my account.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon

Yours sincerely,

Trees are essential for the existence of the human race as they provide the oxygen that we need to survive. Yet, daily all around the globe large areas of woodland are being destroyed. Many people feel that they as individuals can do nothing and that only governments and large companies can halt the destruction.

How far do you agree or disagree with this?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Sample Answer:-

Nowadays woods and forests in all countries in the world are losing trees as more land is needed for building and farming and more wood is needed for the consumption industry, for fuel and for paper. However, we need trees and plants to provide us with the oxygen we breathe. So the destruction of trees is a threat to our survival.

The matter is not just in the hands of governments and big companies. The solution to the problems is one of partnership between governments and big companies and ordinary individuals. Take newspaper, for example. Newspapers are made from paper which comes from wood pulp. However, there is little need for them to be made totally from wood pulp. In fact, in many cases, papers are now made from over 60% recycled paper.

This has come about through pressure from the government to encourage recycling and from the environmentalists made up of individuals. Stricter controls could be placed on companies to ensure that the remaining 40 percent comes from more recycled paper and from forests that are renewed. However, the final responsibility here is on individuals to put pressure on the governments and big companies and in the end to collect paper for recycling.

A very simple measure is for individuals, groups like schools and companies to sponsor the planting of new trees. When a lot of people come together in this way, it can be very effective. Trees could be planted in schools and children could be taught to look after and care for them by appreciating the value of trees, young people will learn to respect them more and, therefore, not want to destroy them.

It is, therefore, clear that individuals have as much a part to play as larger organizations in preserving woodlands and forests.

Speak about a room of your house that is special to you.

You should say

– What the purpose of that room is

– What facilities are available there?

– How much time you spend there

Why do you like that room?

Sample Answer:-

I have an affinity towards every room in my house, but the room I have a special attachment for is our drawing room. It is a big room with seating arrangements for more than 20 people. It has a television, a music system, and a telephone table. The carpet area of the room is approximately 300 square feet. It has two windows, an attractive Plaster of Paris ceiling, and optimum lighting. I like this room because it is the face of our house. We received and welcome our neighbours, guests, and relatives in this room.

We pass our time with them, and share our warmth with them in the same room. This room connects us to the rest of the world, because here we watch TV, listen to the radio, read the newspapers, and even attend phone calls. All my family members sit together every night after dinner, shares our day-to-day experience with each other, and nurtures our strong family bonds in the drawing room. To me, my family is like a team. In today’s era, when every member is an important part of the family, this is the place where we constantly enhance our warmth and feelings towards each other, and enjoy life as a family, in the true sense of the word.

We have been living in the same house for many years, now. I have shared all the ups and downs of my life with my family members and sought guidance and support from them when required, sitting in our drawing room. This room has been witness to all the events of my life, and my family members’ lives. I can say that this room is not only a part of my house, but also an important part of my life. This room has been witness to my graduation party, my grandfather-s condolence meeting, my daughter-s first steps and first words, and many other memorable events that have happened in my family. This room is indeed very special to me.

What do you do in that room?

Well, in that room, me and my family get together for watching television and share our feelings with one another while talking on different matters and another thing is that whenever my family members go outside from this room, I sit alone because the environment of this room is quite tranquil.

What do others do in that room?

As in have told you earlier, in drawing room mostly my family members come for watching TV and they also relish tea with one another while sitting together.

What changes do you want in that room?

If I get an opportunity to renovate my drawing room then I want to change the color of walls. Although the walls of drawing room are painted but the color is not attractive that is a reason that I tend to make is effective by dint of changing color combination.
